New Sugar Act by Providencia and Bold Fork Books Bake Sale

On November 8, 2025, Providencia, led by Chef Paola Velez hosted the New Sugar Act, an event for furloughed federal workers and SNAP benefit recipients to get a bag of pastries. People lined up outside the small bar and Paola handed us goodies like a Banana Tres Leches, Matcha Cantelope Swirl Cookies, Raspberries and Cream Cookies, and Brown Sugar Olive Oil Cake.

And at the Bold Forks Books Bake sale, the community contributed home baked goods like Chocolate Sourdough Loaves, Venezuela Sticky Buns, and Matcha Black Sesame Shortbread. Proceeds went to the Community Services Agency Federal Worker Solidarity Fund.
